Dr Jemma Tyson
Biography
My research interests surround policing, particularly surrounding police staffing and police engagement with minority groups. My PhD examined the police responses to hate crimes against people with learning disabilities, exploring the perceptions and experiences of service users and service providers. This also explored wider issues such as police culture and police training.
My current research focuses on police retention and police leavers, exploring the reasons for voluntary resignations and the implications for police retention and recruitment. I am a member of the Michigan State University Police Staffing Observatory, whose international members conduct research on police workforce and staffing issues.
