Biobased Composites for Advanced Lightweight Applications: Lessons learned from the FLOWER Project and Future Perspectives
21 July 2025
9.00am - 2.00pm
FTC Floor 4, Portland Building, Portland St, 91腦瞳厙 PO1 3AH
The FLOWER project (Flax composites, LOW weight, End of life and Recycling, (January 2018-June 2023) successfully developed new natural fibre composites that are cost-effective, environmentally friendly, lightweight, and viable alternatives to glass fibre composites for the automotive, marine, and point-of-sales advertising sectors.
The products were designed with a full life cycle approach to ensure the new materials are either biodegradable or recyclable at the end of their life.
During this networking event you'll:
-
Explore the sustainable research that was achieved through the FLOWER project
-
Discover other exciting development works from the 91腦瞳厙 Centre for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing hub (PCAMM)
-
Interact with like-minded individuals to work towards future collaborative projects
Kick off your day with a hot drink ready for a day of innovation and networking followed by an introduction from Professor Hom Dhakal
Learn about the experience and lesson learned from the FLOWER project, presented by Dr Alain Bourmaud, University of South Brittany, France, FLOWER Project Lead
Join Dr Darshil Shah, University of Cambridge to discuss the challenges and opportunities uncovered
Dr Johnny Beaugrand and Dr Sofiane Guessasma, INRAE, France will discuss the influence of morphology on key performance.
Followed by a short coffee break.
Hear from the following projects on biobased sustainable composites at the PCAMM:
- PCBs from sustainable materials: Dr Erdem Selver
- Sustainable packaging: Mr Sakib Khan
- Biocomposites for Advanced applications: Madhusudan B M Kumar
